Cookies and trackers: what are we talking about?

A cookie is a small file placed on your device when you visit a site. But the rules do not stop at cookies: article 82 of the French Data Protection Act covers any action that writes information to your device or reads information from it — cookies, but also local storage (“localStorage”, “sessionStorage”), invisible pixels and fingerprinting techniques.

It is that broad definition the next section answers.

What this site places on your device

This site sets a single cookie, strictly necessary to its operation: the one that remembers the language you want to read it in.

What this site does not place

Apart from that language cookie, nothing is written to or read from your device. Here is, point by point, what you might expect and what is genuinely absent:

• No audience-measurement tool: no Google Analytics, nor any equivalent, including “cookieless” ones.
• No font loaded from a third party: fonts are downloaded when the site is built and served from our own domain — no request is made to Google during your visit.
• No embedded video or map: the link to a map, on the Contact page, is an ordinary outbound link. If you follow it you leave our site, and the mapping provider’s policy then applies.
• No tracking social buttons: our social links are plain links.
• No A/B testing, no personalisation, no advertising pixel, no ad-network tracker.

Necessary technical exchanges

Writing nothing to your browser does not mean no data travels: displaying a page requires your browser to send a request to our host, which logs your IP address and browser identifier among other things. That processing is described in our privacy policy (“Server technical logs”).

In addition, the Contact page loads an anti-bot component provided by Cloudflare (Turnstile) to protect the form. That component sets no cookie, but it does process technical data: details are likewise in the privacy policy.

Why there is no consent banner

The consent required by article 82 of the French Data Protection Act applies to trackers that are not strictly necessary to the service. The language cookie is precisely exempt from it: its only job is to serve you the site in the language you asked for. Since this site uses no other tracker, that consent therefore has no object — and we have chosen not to ask you for an authorisation we do not rely on. A banner whose “Decline” button gated nothing would be misleading.

Were we ever to introduce an audience-measurement tool or any other non-essential tracker, a consent banner would be put in place — genuinely gating the loading of that tool — and this page would be updated beforehand.

Controlling trackers in your browser

Independently of this site, your browser lets you review, block and delete cookies and site data, usually from its privacy settings. You can also enable third-party tracker blocking there.
